The Cacogenic Vats

A wizard dungeon for OSR games.

Three days’ trek from Fish Glue Village lies the hated shrine of miasma. For generations, all sensible folk avoided this foul monument and its mound of sickly dead–lest the wart pest return. The black fog that cloaked the place was reason enough to give it a wide berth.

Recently, the steppe herdsmen have brought strange news about the shrine. They say it has changed–the black fog is gone. And so are the other signs of pestilence. The clan’s eunuch-seer was apparently drawn to the place. The herders say he kept shuffling towards the shrine muttering “help him, help him,” though their cautious chieftain vetoed an expedition into the shrine itself.

Ever since, the vagabonds and wastrels of our community have been scheming, muttering about the forgotten jewelry and coin still clinging to the dead and the ease with which they will recover it. Others speak of a holy force nesting under the shrine and make arrangements for their own, more honorable forays…
